Fashion merchandising: how to make a fortune in the fashion industry for a start up brand



Most small business in Nigeria are accustomed to just making  clothes for there customers, I'm presuming you want to make a brand for yourself and become a household name. Here are some steps to put you small business on a pedestal.
1. Do fashion professionally
Just owning a shop and taking clients won't cut it, don't get me wrong your clients are important but you want to sell your brand allover, so you want to go faster than your customers.
                 

2. Starting small is not as bad as it seems
  You might not have the finance to pay for all the initial expenses but you can move gradually to your set goal is better than not moving at all.
3. Become an authority/expert in your designs
   You have to be good at what you do, as a designer creativity and neatness in your craft is essential, if your clients and investors know that you make the quality stuff over quantity there will stick to you real good,  how to be an expert in the fashion industry, you need experienced training, internship, business training. Not only do you need to learn to sew you need to understand the business of fashion.
4. Run way shows
If you are able to participate or attend one this will be a plus to your brand. Creating your own collection establishes you as a designer and creative director and no place to sell your brand than the run way.
5. Produce on a small scale.
Production requires a team, you don't have one?  Get it done for you.  As a designer you don't always have to sew, all you need do is illustrate you ideas and get it to a professional tailor to make more of the prototype.
6. No cash
This is usually a big challenge but not an excuse, if your sewing is really good you can take some samples to a boutique and ask them to retail your brand, that's how most big brands started, till you can afford to your retail outlet and produce more.
7. Utilizing the e-market hub.
Owning an online store is another opportunity seconded to selling your designs to stores. You can produce, display them on a free online market platform, get clients to buy and deliver to them. It sounds easy but it takes a lot of work
8. Advertising your online store and brand
  For cheap and easy advertising, social media is a good  platform,  word of mouth to old customers, creating look books, designing you name and logo. So many things to be done, at the long run it will be worth it.

Finally, you can set all this up with a small team of like minded people or friends,after the hard work and gradual growth you will worry about other things like staffing, business administration, accounting, production, diversifying and most importantly staying relevant in the industry. All you have to do is start.
